It’s a matter of perspective, but for pharmaceutical companies, patients continue to be the primary focus, because successfully impacting patient outcomes is the objective of pharmaceutical research and development. Physicians, of course, are central to successful patient care and, as such, have been – and will continue to be – important stakeholders moving forward.

The current trend seems to be that physicians will have less control overall and perhaps will have less earning power, but I still think they will serve a very important role and we should not lose sight of them as important customers.

Physicians will continue to be stakeholders in healthcare. However, with the continuing shortage of primary care physicians and the increase in numbers of nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists and other medical professionals, doctors will find themselves relinquishing some of the influence that they currently have.
